Even with the best of site security, who's to say a backup copy of your database isn't obtained by an unauthorized party?
Or what if your database is hacked through no direct fault of your own? Having cc_number in plain text just isn't safe. I will agree with everyone that simply NOT storing cc_number is the best security option. However, if you need a copy of it for a while then you, at the very least, need to protect it. That's why I pulled this contrib together.
